  • 3 Final Thouhgts: arc

The King of the Rats covers chapters fifteen, sixteen, and seventeen of City of the Rats, and is the final episode in the City of the Rats arc.

Reeah is our new character for the episode. The guardian of the Opal is mostly true to his book self: massive snake? Check. Crown containing the Opal on his head? Smaller than in the book, but still there. Telepathic powers and vanity higher than the city's ceiling? Also present. Strange four-segmented jaws and a spikes growing out of his head? Not something found in snakes, but probably done to make him…

Crossing the river coveres chapter twelve, thirteen, and fourteen of City of the Rats. And since there are no new characters introduced, let's move right on to the next section.

  • The companions learning that the Ra-Kacharz's food cart is destined for Del, revealing where the food for the palace came from all these years.
  • Tom inviting the Grey Guards inside for some drinks before they hit the road, and informing the Ra-Kacharz that they would be walking back to Noradz since their muddlets had been, "stolen."

Escape coveres the rest of chapters eight, nine, ten, and eleven of City of the Rats

I suppose now is as good a time as any to talk about Tira, since I considered her too minor in the previous episode to address.

Compared to her book counterpart, anime Tira is a lot more confident and, like many other characters, she talks a lot more than she did initially. They anime still has her act terrified when they need her to, but she seems to be more outspoken and questions the Ra-Kacharz more often than she did in the book. She also acts more indipendantly in the anime, wheras in t…

Noradz the Clean covers the rest of chapter six, seven, and part of chapter eight from City of the Rats.

The people of Noradz are pretty accurate to their book description, wearing all black and high boots. However, they're supposed to have shaved heads, which is a little detail that adds a lot to the cult atmosphere of Noradz.

The nine Ra-Kacharz who govern the city are mostly accurate. They're dressed from head to toe in red, leaving only their eyes bare, carry whips, and the eight lesser ones almost always defer to their leader, Reece. However, their garments look to b…

Deltora Comparison: Tom's Curious Shop

Hello Deltora fans, one and all and welcome to episode eight of my Deltora Quest comparison.

  • 1 Thoughts on the Book

Since we once again find ourselves beginning a new arc in the anime, I will give you my brief thoughts on the book version.

City of the Rats is a very interesting book, especially following Lake of Tears, which I believe is the golden standard of a Deltora Book. Unlike the previous entry, City of the Rats has very few setpieces. Most of the book takes place either in the city of Noradz or Tom's shop. As such, there's barely any puzzles or monsters in this book, instead relying on a sense of mistery and stealth as our heroes have to circumnavigate thes…
