First appearance

Thiery was a prisoner in the Land of the Zebak. He is the grandfather of Norris and Shaaran, and the former keeper of the silks.[1]

History[]

Rowan and the Zebak[]

Thiery lived in Old Rin with Norris and Shaaran, the latter of whom he instructed in the custom of keeping the silk tapestries showing the history of Rin's people.
He had a close bond with his working grach Unos, and bribed Zebak guards to allow him to go without clipping the grach's wings and prevent causing her pain. To allow this, Thiery promised that he would never allow her to fly while he still lived.
Thiery took care of the kidnapped Annad until Rowan and his companions arrived in Old Rin in search of her. He was killed by the knife of a Zebak guard, Zanel, while the escape was being planned, but accepted his fate, knowing his death would dissolve his promise and allow the party to ride Unos to safety. Unos killed Zanel in retaliation.

Physical appearance[]

Thiery had long white hair and beard, and was small and thin.[1]

Personality[]

Thiery was caring and sensitive, described as being more like the people of Rin such as Rowan who were not as suited for sending into battle. In this, he resembled Shaaran in personality more than Norris, who was more like the sturdy workers and warriors more common in free Rin. He showed a great dedication to promises he had made, even to his Zebak wardens.
