Seven tribes of Deltora

The seven tribes are seven distinct peoples and regions of the land of Deltora and have existed well over a thousand years. In ancient times, the land was divided into the seven tribes stringently, each tribe stuck to themselves though at times they were known to wage war against one another at their borders. Each tribe occupy a territory, referred to with the name of the tribe's respective ancient tribal gemstone talisman. Since around 1,000 years ago, Deltora's tribes have been united as one nation, accomplished by Deltora's first king, Adin. Today, the seven tribes are ruled over by King Lief, however each tribe does enjoy a certain amount of freedom and self-goverance, with each of them having their own chieftain.

Each of the seven tribes share many similarities with one another, mostly cultural and behavioral ones, though they also have some very distinct differences, both culturally though also physically in regards to certain tribes, as evidenced by the Dread Gnomes and the Ralads, who, although humanoid, are not human. The rest of the people are human. Two of the tribes, the Torans and the Plains, also happen to have magic powers, although with regards to the Plains people it is somewhat rarer to find magic among their people.

The seven tribes of Deltora are, in order of how their gems appear on the Belt of Deltora: the Jalis, the Dread Gnomes, the Mere, the Del tribe, the Plains tribe and the Toran tribe.
