Secrets of Deltora

Scorpion Lizards are poisonous lizards found in Lapis Lazuli territory.

Tales of Deltora[]

Adin briefly observed Scorpion Lizards and Dune Flies scavenging the head of a dead Sand Beast on his quest for the Lapis Lazuli.[1]

Secrets of Deltora[]

Doran the Dragonlover studied and described Scorpion Lizards in his study of the Shifting Sands. Later, he watched a Sand Beast kill one before it was killed in turn by Fortuna.[2]

The Shifting Sands[]

Lief, Barda, and Jasmine saw Scorpion Lizards and Dune Flies scavenging the corpses of two Grey Guards that had followed them into the Shifting Sands and had been killed by a Sand Beast.[3]

Scorpion Lizards use their long, sticky tongues to catch Dune Flies in the Shifting Sands. Though the lizards appear relatively harmless, they are quick to strike if threatened. A Scorpion Lizard will latch onto an attacker with its teeth and claws before using its poisonous tail to sting its victim. This sting can kill birds instantly and make humans violently ill, though it has no effect on Sand Beasts.[2]

Scorpion Lizards are small, scarlet reptiles. Their red skin camouflages them in the Shifting Sands. They have long, sticky blue tongues and sharp teeth. Scorpion Lizards earned their name because of their long, flexible tails, which are tipped with a poisonous barb.[2]

Scorpion Lizards live exclusively in the Shifting Sands in Lapis Lazuli territory.[2]

Scorpion Lizards feed primarily on Dune Flies. There are precious few other food sources in the Shifting Sands, and so Scorpion Lizards scavenge any food they can find, often the remains of Sand Beast victims. The lizards themselves are the main prey of Sand Beasts, though Scorpion Lizards have been known to feed on the remains of Sand Beasts that have been killed by dragons.[2]
