Jantsy grew up near the centre of Del, as a baker's son. He met Britta when the two of them were both quite young, and they quickly became close friends. Britta told him the truth about her parentage years before the series begins, as she knew she could trust him with it.
Shadows of the Master
Jantsy goes with Britta to the harbour to see Captain Gripp, and protects Britta from Lean Alice's suspicions. It is clear from the beginning that he is in love with Britta, but unfortunately Britta does not seem to realise it or return his feelings. Later, when the Star of Deltora sets sail, Jantsy, along with Captain Gripp, is there to farewell Britta and wish her luck on her voyage.
The Hungry Isle
Jantsy has thick, honey-coloured hair, a lock of which constantly falls over his forehead. He smells of sugar, cinnamon and the numerous pastries he creates in the bakery. He is commonly dressed all in white, the typical clothing of a baker.
Jansty has a very friendly, agreeable personality. He appears to be reasonably open-minded and not very prejudiced, as he accepts the truth of the scandal of Britta's family heritage and does not reject Britta for it. Though he does not like Britta's involvement with the trading life, he is still willing to support her when she enters the Rosalyn Trust competition and sets sail to try and achieve her dream to become Mab's apprentice.
Jantsy is able to bake a variety of pastries and bread, as he is a baker's son and works in the bakery for a living.
Jantsy has known Britta since they were both very young. Britta considers him her closest friend, aside from Captain Gripp, but Jansty feels something more for her than friendship. Britta does not seem to realise Jantsy's feelings, however.
