Deltora Quest Wiki

The Jalis are a tribe of Deltora. They gave Adin their talisman (the Diamond) without any fuss because they knew that he was a descendant of Opal the Dreamer, the subject of one of the Jalis folktales called the Tenna Birdsong Tales. The Jalis are the most strong and warlike of all Deltora's tribes and take pride in their warrior heritage. They refer to members of the other six tribes as weaklings. Deep down inside them they are superstitious like the Mere. Jalis are famous for the golden armor worn by their warriors. Nearly all the Jalis who lived in the time of the second invasion of the Shadow Lord were taken to The Shadowlands. The only exception is Glock, who was thought to be dead in the battle but was unconscious, and Gorl, who was a Gem Guardian. Also, some other characters might have some Jalis blood from cross-mating.

Gem

  • The Jalis' Gem was the Diamond symbol of Strength. In Tales of Deltora, it is revealed that the Diamond was the first gem Adin received on his quest, however it was the last gem that Leif got even though Endon had meant it to be the first.
  • Gorl was the gem guardian of the Topaz, albeit he seemed to be unaware of this, do to him being an animated hollow armour of will, that guarded the topaz before Adin was even born, and was probably unaware that he even had a sister-gem to the Diamond. He kept it in the hilt of his sword, and seemed to be somewhat aware of its power, and probably thought he would use it during his "immortal" life.

Trivia

  • So far, all confirmed male members of the Jalis tribe have had their name start with a G.
  • Gorl's brother's names were Greddock and Gudden.
  • The Jalis were the first tribe to give their talisman to Adin.
  • Greel taught Adin how to use swordplay.
