Gellick was a massive Ooze Toad and the guardian of the Emerald. He also supplied the Grey Guards with poison for their Blisters.

Synopsis

Dread Mountain

The Shadow Lord placed upon Gellick the task of guarding the Emerald of the Belt of Deltora. Gellick sat in a great chamber that served as the Dread Gnomes' treasure hoard inside Dread Mountain (location), sitting on a pile of gold coins, gold, jewels and gems, and other kinds of values, as his throne. Here the Dread Gnomes tend to his whim such as bringing him a supply of dead flies as his food. Dread Gnome (tribe) serve as Gellick's slaves and caretakers in return for Gellick protecting them and giving them his venomous slime to use for their poisonous arrows. They use it by dipping the arrowtip in the poison, and at the time of the Shadow Lord's reign and invasion they had joined forces with the Shadow Lord, and was shooting such things as the Kin with the arrows. This same venom is also used in making the Grey Guards' Blisters and whatever venom that the gnomes don't use is shipped off somewhere where the Grey Guards collect it and use it to make their most-feared weapon. The Grey Guards' Blisters are egg-shaped silver shells, that they hurl at targets with their leather slings. When the "silver-eggs" collide against something, they explode and release the burning poison that they contain.

Lief and his group attempted to kill the monster using the Blisters they had stolen but because they were made of the same poison the toad produced, the Blisters had no effect. Fortunately Lief still had some water from the Dreaming Spring and hurled some down the throat of the toad. Because of the enchantment on it, the water from the spring cannot be consumed by those with evil hearts, causing them to turn into pale white trees, with the same, only three, branches stretching upwards which has a bunch of pale white leaves. This is a fate that Gellick was also doomed with. But he became a much larger tree than seen anywhere, or ever.

Gellick's poison, or venom does not affect Dragons.

Trivia

• Gellick is the first Gem Guardian to be killed since Rheea of the rats.
• Gellick is the first Gem Guardian to be defeated by Lief, with Jasmine defeating Gorl, Rheea, and the Hive (anime only) Kree killing Thaegan, Soldeen and Fardeep cured of their curses, and The Glus and Hive still at large.
• While other evil entities of the Spring Water are turned into Trees, Gellick actually resembles himself while still being a tree.
• It is possible that his venom is still being produced in his death.
