The Dread Gnomes Tribe is one of the tribes of ancient Deltora that gave Adin, Deltora's first king, their sacred gem, the green Emerald. Dread Gnomes have light purple or purple-white skin color, usually have brown hair, and brown or golden eyes, tohugh green is not uncommon. The Gnomes live on Dread Mountain, and served The Shadow Lord unwillingly, because after he invaded the land, he sent Gellick, a giant toad called an Ooze Toad with green skin. Gellick sweats and spits a poisonous slime. They had to feed Gellick tens of thousands of flies a day, which they bred in their fly-breeding caves. When they served Gellick, the gnomes collected his poison in jars and buckets.If the poison touches someone they will die immediately,. The only exception to this is if the Ruby or the Emerald from the Belt of Deltora is pressed down on the affected person immediately or if the nectar from the flowers of the tulips of the forest of silence, as shown in the anime when prin cried up some and Lief gave it to Jasmine. This is because the ruby is an antidote to venom, and the emerald is an antidote to poison. Lief defeated Gellick by throwing a container of water from the Dreaming Spring into his mouth, so Gellick was transformed into a giant tree, because if evil beings drink the water of that spring they change into trees. The Dread Gnomes were once very wary and hated intruders but tolerated the kin until Gellick came along. It was then that they reverted back to their wary, hateful ways. However this changed when Lief killed Gellick, and freed them from their slavery. The Dread Gnomes also stopped killing Kin at that time. The 2 species are now both great allies.
