<p>I like that theory! (And I like the Lion Turtle parallell. ...I'm a sucker for anything Avatar.) I think the idea could work, except the island didn't wander and eat before Tier enchanted it. I think if it were originally a giant turtle, it would have done some floating around and eating ships before he arrived and worked his sorcery. If it is a giant turtle, maybe his method of making it 'alive' was turning it into a giant turtle.  </p><p>EDIT: I remembered there are caves within the island! Not sure how that would work out inside a living creature. </p>

<p>As long as your personality/relationships ideas can be solidly backed by canon information, I say write them in. If someone finds it incorrect or pushing the lines of canonicity (is that a word?) we can always go back and edit it. I would advise you to have someone else double-check it for accuracy. It's better to write only a little information about a character if that's the only information given than to write a whole spiel of speculatory material. With characters that we don't know much about, this wiki tends to write about them with phrases like, "Not much is known about ______, but his/her interactions with ______ show that he/she ______." You don't have to use that format; you could say something like, "Because he was the only parental figure in her young life, Anna had a fairly close relationship with her grandfather." It's less wordy, more concise, and more professional sounding. </p>

<p>The Manual of Style says past tense should be used for characters who are deceased. I'm unsure about the use of present/past tense in the history of characters who are still living, since the time frame of books that take place in the World of Deltora is varied. In-universe time used to be fixed at the end of <i>The Sister of the South </i>-- since the release of the <i>Star of Deltora</i> series it has changed, but we haven't really addressed it. I'll wait to see what the other admins have to say. </p>

<p>Though that is a popular fan theory (and a favorite theory of mine), it has not been confirmed that Jewel of Broome is one of Barda and Lindal's children. There is some evidence for that idea, but until it is confirmed in the next book or by the author it cannot be considered canon information. </p>

<p>It sounds to me like the scenario you are describing is the one Ben mentioned. </p><p>In <i>City of the Rats</i>, the third book of Deltora Quest 1, the three protagonists are given strange beasts called Muddlets to ride. The shopkeeper who sold the Muddlets warns the questers not to take the Muddlets down the Broad River path when the road forks. However, he does not give a reason for his warning, which leads the companions to incorrectly guess his motives for warning them. They believe he was just trying to keep them out of danger -- out of the City of the Rats, which lies on the Broad River and is exactly where they want to go. They take the Broad River path despite the shopkeeper's advice against it, and end up riding right by an apple orchard not far from the Muddlets' original home. The Muddlets threw their riders and bolted when they saw home and smelled their favorite food. The questing companions end up in loads of trouble when they wake up Muddlet-less in a creepy city of cultish people obsessed with cleanliness.  </p><p>So here are my answers to your questions, based on my understanding of the information you gave. </p><p>1) The book is <i>City of the Rats</i>, from Deltora Quest 1. </p><p>2) The main character is Lief, and the deuteragonists are Barda and Jasmine. </p><p>3) No one is making them choose, but they had vague advice <i>not</i> to choose a certain path. </p><p>4) Neither option was particularly bad, but the path the companions chose was a wide road through fertile green country. The other road was wide and strong as well.  </p><p>5) The companions chose the road they thought would lead them to their destination, regardless of the shopkeeper's suggestion. </p><p>I hope this helps! </p><p>Rey </p>

<p>It could be Jewel, because Rodda knows we would trust someone who reminds us of Lindal. But personally, I don't think it's any of the finalists. Someone I know said it could likely be Mab. She is old and proud, and what if she doesn't want to give up her position as Trader Rosalyn? She could be using the Rosalyn Trust Competition as a guise under which to find the Hungry Isle and the Staff of Tier and gain eternal life. Judging by the title of the fourth book, Britta will end up on the Isle of Tier and face her father in the end. Could Mab know Britta's parentage and be using her to get the Staff? </p><p>But if there's one thing I know about Rodda's books, its that every series has a twist you never saw coming, even if you figured out some of the other twists. I hope <i>The Towers of Illica</i> has some answers, but I also hope it leaves us with even more questions to be resolved in <i>The Hungry Isle</i>.  </p>

<p>I fixed it somewhat by reverting the images, but now they look kind of... squished. I still haven't figured out how to fix them entirely.  </p>

<p>Yeah, I just went ahead and used 'the Belt'. I was pretty sure the books used uppercase, but when I checked <i>Cavern of The Fear</i>, which was the book I happened to have on hand, lowercase 'the belt' was used. I realize now that it's because it was in reference to the replica belt. (Nice one, Rodda. Even the capitalization hints at that plot twist!) But then I checked some other books, and of course it was uppercase.  </p>

<p>Does anyone have an answer or opinion? I am about to publish my Return to Del revision, but the belt/Belt use in the article is inconsistent. I'd like to get it figured out and fixed. Thanks! </p>

I know you put hard work into your summaries, and I'm sorry if I edited too boldly. I tried to keep the information the same but reword it to be more conicise. I was trying to help -- hopefully my edit was constructive and not damaging to your past efforts.  </p><p>(On the other hand, if you and/or the admins <i>liked</i> what I did, maybe I could do something similar for <i>Return to Del</i>.) </p>

<p>I'm not 100% sure on this, but I don't think the books ever say Mikal and Amarantz were married. It's plausible, but it is also possible that he may be her son or brother.  </p>

However, the image I uploaded for Lun was far too big, but I didn't want to crop it because I don't know which pale bald child is Lun and which is Lod. It doesn't help not knowing their genders either. What's your advice for writing articles based on vague information? I don't want to be wrong, but I'm afraid I may end up being confusing, which I think is equally bad. Any suggestions?</p>
